So the designer is considering different specifications when deciding how to meet building code standards. For example, if a wall requires many windows and other requirements, they might need to use a connector. However, if it's just a solid wall, there may be other ways to avoid using connectors.

That's why the majority of connector products are used on the West Coast, East Coast, and the Gulf of Mexico, where there are more extreme hazards. Earthquake hazards are prevalent on the West Coast, while hurricane hazards are common on the East Coast and the Gulf Coast. Consequently, there's a higher percentage of connectors in those houses compared to the Midwest, where earthquakes or hurricanes are not a concern.
