I would appreciate hearing about your career trajectory and your interactions with Alteryx over the years in your own words.

Alteryx enables resource growth and allows non-IT personnel to solve many IT problems. It also addresses problems that were previously left unsolved due to their smaller scale, despite potentially having a high ROI.

Let's start at the highest level and discuss Alteryx's differentiation. What sets it apart from other tools in the data stack that you might have deployed elsewhere in your organization? Is there any close peer to Alteryx, or does it stand alone?

Most companies that use Tableau significantly probably also use Alteryx and vice versa. Tableau did build Tableau Prep to offer their clients an alternative to Alteryx, but it still falls short of what Alteryx can do. Alteryx, on the other hand, has never tried to compete with Tableau on the visualization side. It views Tableau and similar tools as partner products rather than competitors.

How does this impact the long term? Because I get the impression that IT doesn't really favor Alteryx. It's like shadow IT, creating data silos and circumventing processes.

From an IT management perspective, you become very sensitive to these budget threats and their impact on your ability to perform and demonstrate value to the organization. However, products like Alteryx can come in handy when IT can't deliver on certain things. While Alteryx may not be used for million-dollar projects, it can have a significant impact. For instance, the automated billing adjustment system I built saved the company a million dollars a year at least, and in the first year prevented the loss of key customers.
