I mean, they're doing multiple deliveries a day, right?

That was powerful, and it shows the culture of Carvana. We created a lot of friction doing this because we were engineers and product people. We approached a random person in a completely different department and said, "Hey, look at this app. We want you to stop and start this button to do this and that." We started working closely with people in a completely different organization, and Carvana had the culture where they said, "Yes, let them create a little chaos in our operations to learn and develop."

But the losses were in other areas, right?

To drive years of data and create these systems, Ernie had the foresight to leverage existing drive time records and infrastructure. He knew he had the data to manage cars more effectively. They were able to cold start many processes, although mistakes were still made. We have weekly reviews to assess our progress, check if algorithms are performing as expected, and determine necessary improvements. It's a very rigorous process, with entire engineering and data science teams dedicated to enhancing these systems.
