How significant is the threat posed by Chinese automakers to both European and American companies?

Chinese automakers are a clear threat not only from a pricing perspective but also in terms of performance. They produce good products and have mastered conventional automotive technologies like interior design, chassis, and suspension, making them absolutely competitive. While there is some skepticism from customers about buying Chinese vehicles, I believe it will mirror what happened with Japanese cars in the 70s and Korean cars in the 90s. Initially, there was skepticism about Japanese and Korean cars being cheap and of poor quality, but they eventually dominated the market or captured significant market share.

Unlike the Japanese and Koreans, the Chinese are not entering at the low end of the market. They are targeting the mid-market and sometimes even the premium level. While customers might prefer German cars, if they perceive better value for their money, they will choose Chinese vehicles.
