This raises a good point because we're discussing the history of the software architecture, and I still don't fully understand what this software is doing. What exactly is this software doing, and where are the boundaries? Presumably, at some point, there's a property management system that this integrates into, or a CMS, or something like Salesforce that it integrates with.

In each of those three circles, the Casino Management System was the first to be developed. When casinos in Atlantic City opened in the late seventies, the New Jersey Casino Control Commission was very strict about preventing organized crime from infiltrating the gaming industry. Unlike the situation in Las Vegas, as depicted in movies, Atlantic City had stringent gaming regulations, which are still strict today, though slightly improved.

Presumably, at some point, there's a property management system that this integrates into, or a CMS, or something like Salesforce that it integrates with.

They mandated that casinos must track all players and financial transactions. This included knowing how much money was in the cage, on the casino floor, in chips, in slot machines, and in transit. They required a casino management system to provide the necessary regulatory reporting to detect any irregularities. This system had to track daily totals, casino revenue, wins, losses, and provide detailed player-level data.
