Kakao aims to overcome the structural limitations of chat-focused traffic by expanding engagement in new feed sections like Friends and Discovery. Do you think Kakao will be able to sustain user adoption and prevent user experience failure in terms of competing with other global feed and social media platforms? They're trying to transition traffic to encourage people to watch videos or use the feed in Kakao. I'm wondering if you think they'll be successful in increasing engagement there?

Currently, the Friends tab is used by two segments. One is people in their 40s and 50s, who don't use Facebook much in Korea. They want a place to share news and spend time, so they start posting pictures. The second segment is heavy users of social apps who post everything on Instagram, Threads and sometimes on KakaoTalk to maximize exposure. There was debate in Korea when the app update was made, with some saying they'd quit the app for Line. However, I don't think the drop in usage was significant. People are gradually getting used to the Friends tab, and traffic will likely return step by step. I believe they will succeed in the end.

Interestingly, I have a colleague who was the head of KakaoTalk and is now head of a Kakao subsidiary. We discussed this and both agreed that they will succeed. People can't leave KakaoTalk; it's too integrated into their lives. The Friends tab doesn't need to be as large as Instagram. Even if it's 1/10th the size, it still holds huge commercial potential for KakaoTalk due to its large user base.

What would you say is the potential increase in time spent due to this feed and rolling content videos? Currently, users might spend 24 or 25 minutes per day. If successful, how much additional time do you think users could spend?

When considering how much time users spend per day, it's not like they spend 40 or 50 minutes per entry as they do on YouTube or Instagram. However, I recall that on average, people log into Kakao and open the KakaoTalk app around 27 or 30 times a day because it's so integrated into their lives. Every time they talk with friends, check a reservation, or receive a message from a supervisor, they log on. Interestingly, users tend to check the Friends tab. Recently, KakaoTalk made it mandatory to land on the Friends tab when opening the app. Previously, users would land on the chatting tab and move to the Friends tab if they wanted to check their friends list. Now, every time we open the app 27 times a day, we land on the Friends tab.
