One of the things that Bryan and the rest of the management team mentioned when we spoke to them a while back was how historically ESCO operated more decentralized with respect to their acquisitions. Recently, they've been focused on consolidating operations and being more top-down. When Mayday had on-site leadership, was that unique to Mayday? Did you notice this shift they discussed in your later years there, or did you not experience it much?

No, I did see that. They were certainly looking at best practices, HR, personnel management, and evaluation forms. There were structural changes and efforts to put efficiencies in the business where there was replication. There was a major analysis of how much time is spent on personnel, finance, and HR tasks. They aimed to establish common practices. A corporate-wide HR system was implemented, whereas previously there were four or five different systems among the 12 or 13 companies. Such changes are somewhat painful to go through, something you'd rather not experience, but it's necessary from a corporate perspective.
