Following up on that, do you think NVR is a company where people tend to spend their entire careers? Are they focused on building career plans for employees? What's it like from a retention and career standpoint?
The only reason I left was for more opportunities, and it was because I wasn't willing to leave our market. NVR is probably the best I've seen at training and retaining employees. About 80% of promotions are internal. They build a culture that encourages people to stay long-term. When I was there, I worked for almost 20 years. My boss had been there his entire career, nearly 30 years. Most of my colleagues had worked for Ryan Homes for decades. The culture there promotes internal growth and stability.
