When you say charges, what do you mean?

Now, an important parameter to consider is that if you give any kind of direct payment to an airline in the US, it's illegal. It's considered a subsidy. This has happened in the past with Ryanair and some airports, and it's considered an illegal subsidy. Then, the European competition authorities get involved, and primarily the airport, but also Ryanair, gets into a difficult situation. So, what they usually discuss is some form of marketing support.

My first question is, on what basis are they asking for this? What leverage do they have that full-service airlines don't, allowing them to request marketing support from you?

Many airports have benefited from the presence of Ryanair, Wizz Air, and others, developing their markets and passenger bases. Previously, there were few routes and little traffic, but now they have become established players. However, some airports have suffered because when Ryanair and others withdrew capacity, they couldn't fill it back, becoming almost hostage to Ryanair. That's essentially the model.
