If you go to the core lab and say, "Hey, you've got a machine that produces this information, I'd like to offer you a cheaper machine that produces the same information," why is there a switching cost involved?
There are switching costs because, firstly, they need to prove that it's better. For example, Bio-Rad doesn't offer the same level of cell analysis; it does half the number of cells.
