I would think it's probably the Pareto principle. Ten instruments likely account for at least 90% of the volume. I'm answering honestly and without any confidential information. I don't know the exact figures today, but I can speculate. The vast majority of procedures will use one or two or three different types of graspers and one or two different types of needle drivers, if they use a needle driver at all.

You're going to use some sort of monopolar energy device, like a hook, a spatula, or monopolar curved scissors. Most procedures will include some form of vessel sealing. Vessel sealing is a multi-billion dollar procedural category for the medical device industry. That's why so much focus is placed on these technologies.
